Hamburg attorney John J. Gilmour was nominated today by Democrats in the Erie County
Legislature’s 9th district, a seat currently held by Republican Lynn Dixon.
A native of South Buffalo, Gilmour is a partner in the law firm of Gilmour & Killelea and a
former Erie County assistant district attorney with strong roots in the 9th LD.
“The communities of this district, from South Buffalo through Lackawanna and into Hamburg,
are deeply important to me. They are my past and present, and I want to be a part of leading them
into the future,” Gilmour said.
“It is critically important that we maintain and expand our Democratic majority in the County
Legislature, which over the past year has already adopted landmark legislation in partnership
with County Executive Poloncarz,” Gilmour said. “We are the party where progressive ideals
meet fiscal responsibility, and the result has been a growing economy and an optimism that this
region lacked for a very long time. I look forward to joining that team.”
“John has the professional background and the knowledge of this community to be a highly
effective voice for the 9th Legislative District,” Democratic Chairman Jeremy J. Zellner said. “In
recent years our party has not only been open to new faces and new ideas, it has been redefined
by them, and John Gilmour is part of that exciting trend.
“He will be a great addition to our expanding Democratic legislature majority, and we expect
great things from him in 2020 and beyond.”
Gilmour earned his law degree at Cleveland Marshall School of Law in 2003 and is a 2000
graduate of SUNY Brockport. He is active in the Hamburg Democratic committee and served as

Gilmour coaches children’s basketball and baseball teams in Hamburg and belongs to the grants
approval committee of the Charlotte Avenue Elementary School in the Hamburg Central School
District.
Gilmour is general counsel for the Buffalo Professional Firefighters Local 282.
He and his wife, Kristin, have three children.
