Buffalo, NY – The Erie County Democratic Committee voted this evening to endorse Vanessa Glushefski as the Democratic candidate for Erie County Comptroller. A practicing attorney as well as a Certified Public Accountant, Glushefski will bring considerable private-sector accounting and legal experience to bear in the Comptroller’s office as she seeks to become the first C.P.A. to hold the position as well as the first attorney to do so since Mark C. Poloncarz, who is now Erie County Executive.

County Democratic Chairman Jeremy Zellner endorsed the candidate saying, “Vanessa is the sort of person we should be supporting for office. She has the education and professional skills needed to protect our tax dollars, and, as a working mother, she understands the day-to-day needs of hardworking families. I’m proud to have worked with Vanessa throughout the years, and to continue to support her as the endorsed Democratic candidate for County Comptroller.”

Speaking to a crowd of supporters, volunteers, family, and Democratic committee members in a rally after the vote, Glushefski said, “I am honored to accept the endorsement of the Democratic Party, and look forward to working hard with my fellow democrats to restore the professional integrity of the Office of Comptroller. As Comptroller, I will bring an understanding and respect for the law to the position to better facilitate the services and requirements of the office. In the last four years we have seen that a Comptroller who doesn’t have the qualifications to understand the complex work becomes overly focused on partisan politics. As Comptroller, the numbers will guide my actions not politics.”

A Certified Public Accountant, Glushefski currently serves as legislative director for Assemblywoman Monica Wallace, but will now take a leave of absence to pursue the race for Erie County Comptroller. In the past, she has also worked for Chiampou Travis Besaw & Kershner, LLP in Buffalo, specializing in tax compliance and auditing bankruptcy petitions on behalf of federal district courts nationwide. Vanessa succeeded in a similar position with Shandling & Landsman, LLP in New York from 2005-2007 and brings copious experience in tax preparation and research, trust accounting, and other areas of accounting and financial review from that position.

Vanessa Glushefski will hold her first major fundraiser at 5:30PM on May 11, 2017 at the Adam Mickiewicz Library and Dramatic Circle, 612 Fillmore Ave, Buffalo, NY 14212, in the heart of historic Polonia on Buffalo’s eastside.
